About the Author Thomas R. Baechle, EdD, CSCS,*D; NSCA-CPT,*D, is the executive director of the National Strength 'training fitness' and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certification Commission. He is the cofounder 'training fitness' and past president of NSCA 'training fitness' and its former director of education. In 1985 he was named the NSCA’s Strength 'training fitness' and Conditioning Professional of the Year. Baechle is also the chair of the exercise science 'training fitness' and athletic training department at Creighton University 'training fitness' and the former exercise leader of their phase III cardiac rehabilitation program. He has received numerous awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the NSCA 'training fitness' and the Excellence in Teaching Award from Creighton University. For 16 years, Baechle competed successfully in weightlifting 'training fitness' and powerlifting, setting various Midwest records. For more than 20 years he coached collegiate powerlifting teams, strength-trained athletes, 'training fitness' and taught weight training classes. Baechle was the force behind the creation of the CSCS 'training fitness' and NSCA-CPT examinations that are offered through the NSCA Certification Commission.
